We’ve moved from a busy seaside town on the south coast, not far from Brighton and London, to a rural, peaceful historic town in France.
Our adventure has only just begun, however it’s been a whirlwind. With digging pools, knocking down walls, driving tractors, welcoming our first customers and learning French, all whilst being filmed for the Channel 4 programme ‘A New Life In The Sun’.
We hope that Fig Trees brings our customers as much joy as it has brought us over the past few months. We have poured our love for France, our obsession for chic interiors, and our drive for perfection into our new home which we are thrilled to share with our customers.
Welcome to Figtrees or Les Figuiers, our beautiful 200 year old farmhouse in South West France.
SURROUNDINGS
Surrounded by vineyards we can assure you of a peaceful stay, with a small epcerie in the village for basic supplies, so the busiest it becomes is at milking time when the local cows are called in.
RESTAURANTS
The area has, of course, a great range of restaurants. Dine on the banks of the Dordogne at Au fil de l’eau for a very special evening. For an unforgettable gourmet dinner, nothing beats Les Fresques at Chateau des Vigiers, one of the finest gourmet restaurants in France
ACTIVITIES
There are plenty of activities available locally. the Dordogne river is just a few moments in the car from the house, and there are many pleasant spots to walk along the riverbanks.
REGION
There are more châteaux in the Dordogne region than in any other part of France. Many vineyards are also waiting to be explored: most of them offer wine tasting, and sell their produce at very cheap prices. The St Emilion region with its exceptional wines is just 40 minutes away.
GOLF
Golfing is available at the beautiful 27-hole course of Château des Vigiers is only 9 minutes drive away, and is stunning.
EXPLORE!
We are in a small village with a local épicerie for basic supplies, but only 10 minutes away is Sainte Foy La Grande, a bastide (fortified) town on the banks of the Dordogne river. Here you can find a range of shops including a large supermarket and best of all an award winning market on Saturdays that will tickle your taste buds and have you hurrying home with local produce to prepare and eat!
